Overview
Mt Difficulty is Central Otago’s leading artisan winegrower with a pioneering heritage based in Bannockburn. Committed to delivering world-class wine that captures the essence of Central Otago, their Pinot Noir is one of the most famous New Zealand Pinot Noirs in the world.
The Mt Difficulty story began in the early 1990’s with ‘The Gang Of Four’ – the owners of five newly-planted vineyards in Bannockburn. Upon a handshake they decided to work together to produce wine under one label. When Mt Difficulty Wines was officially formed in 2004, the majority of the individual vineyards passed into the ownership of the company. The hardest part for the Gang of Four was in choosing a name for the label. Their namesake, Mount Difficulty, is Bannockburn’s highest peak and the backdrop to our vineyards – some of Bannockburn’s oldest.
